Facelift Model

As you age, facial tissue weakens, resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles. Oftentimes, your face will reflect an age much older than you feel. Eliminating drooping skin and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles can turn back the clock on your facial appearance. Facelift surgery helps you achieve firmer skin for a more youthful appearance.

Thinking About Getting a Facelift?

Undergoing a facelift can have a positive effect in many ways. Here are just a few of the benefits of this facial rejuvenation procedure:

Eliminates Excess Skin

Weak, sagging skin that occurs around the lower face and jawline can detract from your facial definition. Removing excess skin not only smoothes lines and wrinkles, but it can also enhance the definition between the face and neck. Tightening the skin can also improve the appearance of undefined cheekbones and puffiness under the eyes.

Smoothes Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Tightening the skin helps fill in and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Facelift surgery targets wrinkles that occur at the nasolabial folds, around the mouth, and along the jawline. Erasing wrinkles and fine lines smooths the face for a brighter, more youthful complexion.

Corrects Sagging Jowls

Many facelifts involve removing sagging skin and tissue that occurs along the jawline, known as jowls. The procedure also tightens the skin and muscles of the neck, creating a more graceful neck silhouette.

Rejuvenates Your Facial Appearance

Facelift surgery can dramatically improve the overall appearance of your face. By tightening and smoothing the lower portion of your face, you can restore a better facial balance and a brighter complexion.

Increases Your Confidence

Having a facial appearance that reflects how you feel on the inside can dramatically change the way you face the world. Feeling happy and comfortable in your skin can help you be more confident, outgoing, and happy. Increasing your confidence is the most life-changing benefit of a facelift.

Your Facelift Procedure

Facelifts are performed under general anesthesia, IV sedation, or local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. The incisions are placed discreetly in the hairline. They begin behind the ears and can run up to the temples depending on the amount of correction needed. Through the incisions, the skin is separated from the underlying muscular structure. The subcutaneous tissue and muscles are then lifted and sutured into place, which is what helps create a firmer facial appearance. The skin is then draped over the new muscle contour, and excess tissue is trimmed away. The incisions are then closed.

You’ve just had a facelift! Now what?

After facelift surgery, most patients experience the following in terms of the recovery timeline:

Immediately After

Following facelift surgery, you will experience some bruising and swelling. Discomfort as a result of your surgery is controlled using oral pain medication. Your face may feel tight. You should keep your head upright at all times in the week following your procedure.

1 Week After

The swelling should begin to subside. Avoid direct sun exposure to the skin. Do not engage in strenuous physical activities.

2 Weeks After

The majority of swelling and bruising will have resolved. You may still experience minor numbness around your earlobes, face, and neck. You can begin to lay in a reclined position but should still avoid sleeping flat on your back.

6 Weeks After

Bruising and redness will have dissipated. Your scars will begin to soften. You can resume your normal activities, including exercise, with your doctor’s permission.
