Skin Under Chin Sagging; Excess Skin Removal

In my practice, I see a number of men in their 70’s and 80’s who develop a lot of loose skin under their chin.  This deformity is commonly called a Turkey Wattle deformity.  Most men of this age group do not want a facelift and want a simple procedure to correct this problem.  This excess skin under the chin is of concern since this extra skin bulges over the shirt collar.

A simple operation to correct this problem is to directly remove the excess skin and fat from under the chin area.  A small rotation of the neck skin is also performed in the neck crease (Z-plasty).  The only downside to this procedure is the scar in the middle of the neck.  This scar usually heals beautifully and blends well.  Most men would prefer to have this scar over a larger operation.  This procedure is done under local anesthesia and only 3 days of downtime.
