Prevention of Facial Lines

Botox – Reduction of Facial Lines

Botox container and syringeBotox is a product name for botulinum toxin Type A. Botox injections is a popular nonsurgical method to temporarily reduce or eliminate frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s-feet around the eyes, and in some instances, bands or cords in the neck.

Wrinkles such as crow’s-feet, frown lines, and horizontal forehead creases are usually caused by repeated muscle contraction associated with facial expressions. The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, used as a therapeutic agent, blocks certain nerve impulses and temporarily inactivates the muscles that cause these wrinkles. The action of botox is well targeted to the specific muscles that control facial expressions, and surrounding muscles are not impacted.

Botox injections will not only smooth certain types of facial wrinkles, but the treatment will also slow the process of further wrinkle formation. In addition to its temporary qualities in reducing furrows, Botox helps to prevent fine lines from becoming deeper, because it weakens the muscles that cause deep wrinkle formation.

That’s why people as young as their 30’s and even 20’s, who want to prevent wrinkles before they happen, can be appropriate candidates for Botox injections.

Combining Fillers and Botox to Achieve Facial Rejuvination

Non-Surgical Facelift Using Fillers and Botox

Headshot of smiling woman with defined cheekbonesWhen a woman does not want to undergo surgery, fillers (Restylane, Juvaderm, fat) and Botox in combination can produce a youthful improvement to the face. Fillers can be used to add volume to the periorbital area, temporal area,  nasolabial folds, and jawline. Botox is used to remove the wrinkles in the forehead, upper nose and eyelid By combining these products at one time, a distinctive improvement in facial appearance occurs. A patient must realize these effects are not permanent and re-injections will be required every six to twelve months depending on the product used.

Wrinkles At A Young Age

Advantages Of Botox At An Early Age

advantages of botox at a young ageMost of my patients think about using Botox in their mid to late 40’s or 50’s. This is the time facial wrinkles are quite prominent.  Even though Botox minimizes fine lines in the forehead, wrinkles at a young agein the upper nose and crows feet, these lines are now permanent. I have found that by injecting these facial wrinkles earlier in their aging process (early to mid 30’s) this will delay and possibly prevent the deep wrinkles we develop later in life.  By paralyzing those muscles early, our skin will continue to stay youthful. NeuroToxins (Botox, Dysport) temporarily paralyze facial muscles.  Some of my patients have very strong muscles which accentuate the aging process. This can cause a scowling or angry appearance between the eyebrows and deep forehead wrinkles.  When I see a patient in their 30’s who have these types of muscles, I strongly suggest Botox for the reasons mentioned. This treatment plan may also delay fillers for the prominent lines that develop.  Please contact my practice with any questions or to schedule a complimentary consultation.

The Many Uses of BOTOX

woman getting botox injectionsBOTOX® Cosmetic, the injectable most commonly known for its ability to reduce wrinkles, has held the title of the most popular non-surgical treatment in the world for the last few years. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), over 6.1 million BOTOX injections were administered in the United States in 2012.

When BOTOX was FDA approved over 10 years ago, many were apprehensive about this “lunch hour” procedure because it is derived from a toxin, and many were afraid they would get a “frozen” result since the product literally limits facial muscle movement. While it may sound dangerous to inject a poison into your face, BOTOX is completely harmless when administered in small amounts. It would be near impossible to inject a harmful amount of BOTOX into the face.

Like the many men and women this product has treated, BOTOX has aged quite gracefully. As the years have passed, cosmetic surgeons and estheticians have perfected their techniques to create the most natural-looking results. Highly experienced and trained professionals know exactly where and how much of the product to administer. Any complications that have resulted from BOTOX have been rare and minor, which may be one of the many reasons for its ever-increasing popularity.

Many do not know that BOTOX is as versatile as it is safe. Because of its ability to relax the muscles, BOTOX is also FDA approved to treat severe underarm sweating, cervical dystonia, and muscle stiffness. It has also been used to treat back pain, migraine headaches, vaginismus, and urinary incontinence.

BOTOX® works especially well to correct deep wrinkles between the brows, as well as crows feet. For patients who have facial volume loss along with fine lines and wrinkles, injectable fillers are an alternative to BOTOX. Rather than temporarily paralyze the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, injectable fillers “fill in” facial hollows and wrinkles to create a more youthful appearance. For more permanent facial wrinkle correction, Dr. Wald performs the facelift procedure at his Fullerton practice.

Botox – Youthful Appearance with Fillers and Botox

Most people today would like to look younger without undergoing any surgery and having minimal, if any, down time. We are all busy in our daily lives and with the present economic conditions; we would like benefits of youth with out much expense and bruising.

Botox and fillers (Hylaform, Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse) are quick remedies for the aging face. Botox paralyzes for three months the muscles over our nose, forehead and around the eyes. This prevents an angry appearance or scrowling typically seen by hyperactive glabella muscles. Forehead wrinkles and lines around the eyes are also softened when paralyzed by Botox. After performing over two thousand injections Botox, I have never seen a problem. The Botox must be injected by a competent person, preferably a doctor. I see everyday patients who say they were injected at a med spa and say they have seen minimal results. I explained to them that a lot of places charge small feel but also dilute the Botox several times more than the recommended amount. This marked dilution lessons the effects of Botox, usually resulting in an unhappy patient.

Facial fillers plump up lines or wrinkles or depressions that we develop as we age. By injecting these fillers into these areas, the wrinkles are lessoned. These substances last approximately six months and Radiesse can last up to one year.

When using both fillers and Botox in combination, a youthful combination can occur without any down time and minimal cost.
