5 Tips for Maintaining Liposuction Results

4 Min Read

diet, exercise and mindfulness help preserve liposuction results

People who have been struggling with stubborn, diet and exercise-resistant fat can finally reach their ideal body goals using liposuction.

Liposuction offers fast, efficient results that patients love and hope will be long lasting.

If you have undergone liposuction—or are considering getting it—this guide will tell you how small lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and mindfulness can help you maintain your liposuction results for years to come.

1. Start Before Your Surgery

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the key to keeping your liposuction results. A healthy lifestyle is precisely what it sounds like—a lifestyle. You learn to form healthy habits by finding out what works for you and staying consistent.

If you are considering liposuction and would like to make the transition easier, start now. If you can form healthy habits before your operation, they will be easier to maintain following the procedure.

If you have already had your procedure, be patient with yourself, and make lifestyle changes in stages that you can handle.

A drastic change in a short period can be difficult. Start small. For example, try moving around for at least 20 minutes a day and then increase the rigor and time spent on exercise as time goes on.

2. Healthy Diet

Weight loss and gain are highly contingent on the foods that we eat.

For example, a diet that is high in processed food, bad fats, and harmful sugars are likely to result in excess fat stores.

Why do we call them “bad” fats or sugars? Some fats and sugars are bad because they cause negative effects in the body if consumed regularly. Bad fats and sugars are processed into excess fat and can cause other issues like high blood sugar and diabetes.

A tip for maintaining a healthy diet is to add color when possible and find substitutes that you like. There are healthy fats and sugars found in fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods.

Avocados, fish, nuts, and eggs are high in healthy fats and proteins that improve brain function and boost energy. Honey and fresh fruit have plenty of natural sugar that tastes great, but is easier for the body to process.

Add color to your diet by incorporating fruits and vegetables like leafy greens, beets, squash, and citrus. Cut out extra fat and sugar by finding less processed options like natural peanut butter, or vegetable-based dairy and snack products.

3. Regular Exercise

The formula for maintaining weight and preventing the return of excess fat is to burn as many—if not more—calories than you take in. Even with a healthy diet, a sedentary lifestyle will ultimately lead to an accumulation of weight.

Setting aside a little time every day or week to exercise will not only help you to maintain the results from liposuction, but it will also help to improve your mood, your ability to be active, and your daily energy level.

A tip for implementing exercise is to find activities that you enjoy. Some people love going to the gym or taking a run, but if that does not sound like you, perhaps try signing up for a dance class, a rollerskating team, or a yoga class.

Whatever your thing or things are, find them and stick to them.

4. Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking plenty of water helps the body to detox and cleanse itself, which allows you to get the most out of your exercise while boosting your metabolism.

Drinking more water will also prevent your body from storing too much water, which results in the appearance of water weight.

A tip for drinking more water is to infuse it with flavors that you love. By adding sliced fruit, cucumber, or herbs such as mint, you can enhance the taste and suppress appetite.

Replacing sugary, calorie-filled drinks with water can cut down calorie intake quickly and easily.

5. Reduce Stress

When you are under constant stress, your body begins to manifest this stress in various ways.

Stress can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as binge eating.

High levels of the stress hormone cortisol can cause a drop in blood sugar, which can result in sugar and fat cravings.

This is where persistent “comfort” food cravings can arise.

A tip to reduce stress is to try meditating for at least five minutes a day. Exercise and a healthy diet can also help the body to function better and ultimately reduce stress.
