Skin Tightening Using the Sciton® Laser

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 10.55.22 AMThe quality of your skin changes dramatically over the course of life. When you’re young, your skin is smooth, firm, and plump. As you age, it thins, loosens, and sags. Over time, your skin may begin to show wrinkles, fine lines, and sagginess that make you appear older. Many men and women alike who experience these changes in skin quality could look years younger if they knew what technology is available today. One of the best tools for skin tightening is the Sciton® Laser, which can reverse the problems of loose, thin, and sagging skin. With the expert hand of Dr. Robert Wald at The Aesthetic Institute, the Sciton® Laser can rejuvenate your skin and refresh your appearance.

How Does Your Skin Age?

As you age, your skin quality changes and eventually begins to sag, loosen, and thin out. The main reason your skin ages in this way is because your body slows its production of collagen. Collagen is a fibrous, structural protein, and it is a major component of your skin’s connective tissue. This protein gives your cells structure and strength. Some of its primary roles include strengthening your skin tissue and keeping your skin elastic. Thus, when collagen begins to deplete, it’s no longer around to keep your skin healthy, strong, and elastic. This is why skin thins, loosens, and sags over time.

Reversing the Process

Sciton® LaserCollagen production slows and weakens at different rates for different people. If you look at someone who is around your age or older and think that they look younger than you, perhaps the process of collagen breakdown is occurring at a faster rate for you. But with the help of cutting-edge technology, you can reverse this process. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Wald uses the newest technology in the Sciton® Laser to rejuvenate skin quality and restore firmness to the skin.

The Sciton® Laser

The Sciton® Laser sends infrared heat energy deep into the skin to trigger the collagen fibers to contract. With Dr. Wald’s controlled application of these heat waves, the existing collagen strengthens, new collagen forms, and loose tissues start to become firm. The natural process of collagen production begins to work more effectively once again, and the results continue to improve over several months. Due to sapphire contact cooling, no surface tissue is harmed during treatment.

  • Quick treatment (15 to 30 minutes)
  • No downtime with little to no recovery period
  • Surface skin is protected while deep skin tissue is treated
  • Safe and effective for all skin tones and types
  • Can treat multiple areas on the face and body

Skin tightening with the Sciton® Laser effectively leads to firmer, more youthful skin. To see how this cutting-edge technology can improve your skin and help you look and feel younger, call (714) 738-4282 or contact us online to schedule your consultation with Dr. Wald today.

Mouth and Eye Wrinkle Treatment

Erasing Lines around Mouth and Eyes with Minimal Redness

mouth and eye wrinkle treatmentEvery day patients come into my office complaining of wrinkles around their mouth and eyelids. Most of these patients have tried numerous creams and ointments without success and have spent hundreds of dollars for these products.  Certainly, these people have bought these products because of good advertisement.

Over the years, I have tried a number of techniques to improve these wrinkles.  This has included dermabrasion, laser therapy and fillers.  While all these modalities work, there are downsides to  each of these therapies.  With fillers, they are only temporary.  With dermabrasion and CO2 lasers, there is prolonged redness and long healing.

Sciton erbium laserRecently, I have been working with the Sciton Erbium laser.  I have found this laser to be extremely effective with minimal redness and fast healing.  This laser can reverse the effects of sun damage that cause wrinkling, sun spots and tired appearing skin.  With this laser, physicians  can control the ablation and coagulation depth for either light or deep peels and restore a healthy look to the skin.

There are 2 approaches to resurfacing: Full field and fractional.  In full field resurfacing, the entire surface areas of the skin is treated. A laser beam is scanned over the treated area and precisely removes a layer of skin.  The body will eventually replace the old, damaged skin that was removed, with a fresh, healthy layer.  Treatments can range from shallow to deep depending on the patients extent of wrinkling and texture problems.

In fractional resurfacing, the laser removes pinpoint columns of skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact.  This approach allows the laser to penetrate very deeply for effective collagen remodeling, while the surrounding and intact tissue promotes rapid healing.

By combining these two modalities, the results in my patients are greatly improved.  Depending on the patients desires, 1 day or a week of redness is involved to achieve the desired results.

Laser Peels: Not a substitute for facelift

Non Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Woman smirking with her hands to her chin and a plant handing down next to herLasers generate a concentrated stream of bright, pulsed light that can be used to help correct a variety of skin conditions. While some laser treatments result in complete skin resurfacing, others only help diminish fine wrinkles and discoloration. Lasers can penetrate deeply into the skin and promote reorganization of collagen, which helps diminish wrinkles and improve skin tone. They also have somewhat of a tightening effect, which can aid skin tone and appearance.
Although lasers are an effective method of facial rejuvenation, laser treatments are not a substitute for surgical procedures such as a facelift.  Laser peels can provide significant and long lasting improvement of sun damaged, unevenly pigmented or coarsely wrinkled facial skin. Peels can be performed with superficial or deep lasers. They may be used on the entire face or on a limited area, such as the vertical wrinkles around the mouth. Carbon dioxide lasers are generally the strongest and may be recommended for fair skin, severe sun damage, and deep wrinkles.

Get Rid of Acne and Get Beautiful Skin!

Beautiful face of young adult woman with clean fresh skinNo matter how old you are, you are always susceptible to getting acne. Caused by a buildup of bacteria-laden oil (sebum) and dead skin cells in your pores, acne can wreak havoc on your physical appearance, as well as your confidence. In the past, keeping skin free of dirt and sweat was only thought to be done with special scrubs and washes. However, various studies have found other ways to effectively fight against the development of acne.

Besides washing your face at least twice a day, below are a few helpful tips to effectively prevent acne and get the beautiful skin you deserve.

Get Your Vitamins

Just like your heart or lungs, your skin is an organ (the largest in the body). When it doesn’t receive the proper nutrients, there’s is an increased possibility that it will respond by overproducing sebum and clogging pores.

Mask it

Applying a homemade facial mask made of honey and cinnamon may seem like a waste of time, but it is more helpful than you think. Honey is a natural antibiotic that kills bacteria and cinnamon contains antimicrobial properties that slow the production of bacteria. All you need is two tablespoons of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon and…Voliá!

Change Your Pillowcase

When you sleep, dirt and oil rub off onto your pillowcase, becoming a hotbed of bacteria of the coming days. Changing your pillowcase on a weekly basis can noticeably help prevent breakouts.

Check Your Laundry Detergent

Many laundry soaps contain chemicals and fragrances that are harsh on the skin and can irritate your pores. If you’ve been sporadically experiencing acne recently, then try using a detergent that is color- and fragrance-free.

Go Easy on the Makeup

If you’re one of those women who tend to cake on their makeup, perhaps this is the root of your acne. As an added problem, applying makeup means touching your face, which can promote bacterial growth. To help reduce your risk for acne, wear less makeup and wash your makeup brushes at least once a week.

At The Aesthetic Institute, we offer a wide range of skin care products and treatments that can diminish and prevent acne.
